Fulton Homes Continues "Two Seconds is Too Long" Campaign to Prevent Child Drowning

Summer-long contest provides free swim lessonsfrom the Valley of the Sun YMCA

Fulton Homes proudly announces the launch of the 23rd annual "Two Seconds is Too Long" campaign, to raise awareness for child drowning prevention. The second leading cause of death among kids (according to the CDC), drowning took the lives of 57 children in Maricopa and Pinal counties in 2023.

Scheduled to air throughout the summer on KTAR-FM and Arizona Sports radio, the public service announcements (PSA's) will provide tips on pool and water safety with an opportunity to win free swim lessons with the Valley of the Sun YMCA. Four drawings will be held throughout the summer, awarding a free group swim lesson to 52 winners. Drawings will be held April 16, May 16, July 16 and September 2.

What began as a phrase coined by local weatherman Dave Munsey in 2001 has evolved into a longstanding commitment to water safety in Arizona communities. Doug Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes, recalls the pivotal moment when Munsey shared the tragic story of a friend's child drowning, igniting a determination to make a difference.

"His words resonated deeply with us, and we knew we had to take action," Fulton affirms. Inspired by Munsey's plea, Fulton initiated the "Two Seconds is Too Long" public service announcement campaign, urging caregivers to remain vigilant around water.

Now 23 years later, the campaign continues to deliver this vital message through radio spots broadcasted throughout the summer, serving as a reminder of the critical importance of water safety.

Fulton Homes extends its commitment to water safety with other initiatives like Fence Patrol and Everyday Lifesavers. Since its inception shortly after the launch of "Two Seconds is Too Long," Fence Patrol gives away fence or pool covers to protect deserving families and Everyday Lifesavers offers free CPR training sessions, providing the essential skills to save a life when tragedy strikes.

"As a native Arizonan, it's disheartening to see our state consistently ranked among the top drowning spots in the nation," Fulton reflects. "But we refuse to accept this as the norm. We're committed to creating lasting change."

Fulton Homes has invested over $3 million in water safety initiatives over the past two plus decades. By amplifying awareness and providing tangible resources, Fulton Homes aims to make every second count in preventing child drowning incidents.
