Selecting an ideal floorplan to suit the needs of your family can be challenging because there are so many factors to consider. Whether you want a bathtub, shower or just a toilet in the third bathroom is up to you, but it's another decision that should be made ahead of time weighing in all the factors that surround you and your family's needs.

Speaking of which, most businesses had to pivot in 2020 due to COVID-19, meaning that many employees found themselves in a work-from-home situation. Prior to that time, home offices seemed like a luxury for an elite few, but today they're an essential room for a fully functioning home. So, it's important to think about your remote working needs when contemplating your ideal floorplan. Most new home designs today can incorporate a flex office space, an open study or a bonus room onto the floorplan. If you think there's a possibility that you or your spouse may end up working from home, you should keep office space in mind and decide what part of the house you'd be most comfortable working from when looking at floorplans. Also, bear in mind the logistics that may come into play when working remotely, such as noise, proximity to other people, the nearest restroom and anything else that could make working from your home office inconvenient.

There are many other factors to keep in mind when searching for the perfect floorplan. Don't forget to look at storage options, such as linen cabinets, closets and space in the garage. And if you love entertaining, you'll want to find a floorplan with an open concept that flows from the kitchen into the family room. But besides the floorplan, consider the size of the lot and backyard, since it's an extension of your home's personality. Try to ensure that you have the right sized yard for your needs. Some people prefer a large yard for their children to play, to put a pool in and to host family cookouts. Yet, others don't want too much of a yard to take care of and maintain. You'll have to decide what's right for you and your family when choosing your home and lot.
